What Reiki is
Reiki is a gentle form of energy work that started in Japan about a hundred years ago. The idea is simple: when your energy is stuck or depleted, your body has a harder time doing what it already knows how to do. Reiki helps it along.
In practice, it looks like resting with your eyes closed while I place my hands lightly on or just above your body.
You stay fully clothed. Some people feel warmth or a slow tingling. Some see colors. Most people feel their shoulders drop somewhere in the first twenty minutes, and a lot of them fall asleep.
You don't have to believe anything for it to work. You just have to lie down.
What a session looks like
We talk first. Ten minutes or so about what's going on for you, where you're holding tension, what you'd like to let go of. Sometimes people know exactly why they came. Sometimes they just know they're tired.
Then you rest. You lie down on the table, I dim the lights, and I move slowly through the body, head to feet. I don't rush this part. If something comes up for you, a memory, a feeling, a few tears, you don't have to explain it. You can just let it move.
We close together. When the session is done I'll give you a few minutes to come back before we talk about what I noticed and what you felt. Then you go home and drink a lot of water. Most people sleep well that night.
If we're meeting online. Reiki travels. For virtual sessions, you find a quiet spot where you can lie down, we talk over video first, then you close your eyes and I work the same way I would in the room. People are usually surprised how much they feel.
